Mark your calendars for a day of music, history, and community fun — the Carl J. McEwen Historic Village will come alive on Saturday, September 27, 2025, for the annual Autumn Jubilee. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., guests can stroll through the charming grounds and experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of life from over a century ago. With crisp autumn air and colorful leaves as the backdrop, it’s the perfect setting to celebrate the season while connecting with local history.

One of the highlights of the day is the beloved “Airing of the Quilts.” Throughout the village, quilts will be hung on clotheslines, draped over fences, and displayed in open spaces, showcasing a variety of patterns, colors, and styles. This tradition not only offers a feast for the eyes but also celebrates the craftsmanship and heritage of quilting in our community. It’s a wonderful opportunity for photographers, history enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates the artistry of handmade textiles.

In addition to the quilt displays, the Autumn Jubilee offers a variety of hands-on activities and demonstrations. Children and adults alike can try their hand at gold panning, learn about traditional woodworking, or watch the blacksmith at work — a figure described as “the most important person in the village” in years past. Craft booths will feature holiday gifts, homemade cakes, and fresh produce, making it a great place to start seasonal shopping or pick up a unique memento.

Live music will fill the air throughout the day, adding to the festival atmosphere. The Charlotte Folk Society’s Mint Hill Jammers and Queen City Blue Grass will perform toe-tapping tunes that blend perfectly with the historic surroundings. Whether you’re a bluegrass fan or just enjoy the warmth of live folk music, the performances are sure to be a highlight of your visit. Bring a chair, tap your feet, and soak in the sounds of traditional Americana.
The Autumn Jubilee is more than just an event — it’s a chance to step back in time, enjoy the company of friends and neighbors, and experience the rich heritage of Mint Hill. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. The Carl J. McEwen Historic Village is located at 7601 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
